A Bit of Background
Everyone deserves a fair and equitable opportunity to pursue their aspirations and achieve their full potential. Not everyone can pursue their aspirations due to their current socioeconomic status.
Unequal access to information and resources limits their ability to make informed choices to help them achieve their potential. The divide in society to pursue opportunities has been further widened by the socioeconomic effects of the pandemic.
The pandemic has spotlighted the critical role played by technology and access to the internet for the common man to lead a fulfilling life. This has been felt across all sections of society and the economies of all countries.
One of the most critical impacted segments was the education of children. Teachers, parents, and most importantly, children had to accept this change and embrace it with vigor and resilience to ensure that education happened despite the challenging situation. The pandemic highlighted the socioeconomic inequities in the classroom and accelerated the change in delivering and consuming education.
This is a definitive inflection point that brought to light to the general public and world at large the great digital divide and digital poverty in socioeconomically poor groups for education.
